Tachulator digital tach with surface ft/mn. on Craftsman/Atlas lathe
Mounting on Craftsman/Atlas 12X36 late model
lathe shown. A sheet metal bracket is mounted to the headstock cover with
pop rivets. The tach is mounted to the bracket with double faced foam tape.
The sensor is mounted to the left inside wall of the headstock next to the 2"
diameter collar on the spindle, also with foam tape. The reading strip is a
piece of aluminum tape with black electrical tape segments of .32" and .32"
apart to give 10 pulses per revolution and covered with clear laminate to hold
secure. I have since replace that strip with a single mark (half black half
white) and the reading is much more stable and is working good down to 28 rpm.
This set up is easy to install and works
great. With a little ingenuity, the tach could be mounted on any lathe.
